"Mademoiselle de Gournay was owed the best edition of her time that had yet been made of Montaigne, not excluding the one he had made himself. She gave several of them, including the last in 1635 was the best, the most correct, and the best adorned with the research that could be appropriate to it, which were considerable enough to do honor to her spirit and her erudition, and even to her modesty since she admits that she had been helped in this work...".
